Stop Indiana Senate Joint Resolution 1

Do not sacrifice our rights for "safety."

Do not let your neighbors be subject to the biases of our judicial system.

What is SJR 1?

Senate Joint Resolution 1 is a proposed amendment to the Indiana Constitution.

It would allow judges to hold suspects without bail without limitations.

Anyone deemed "dangerous" could be held without bail indefinitely.

It has passed the General Assembly twice, which means that it will be on the November 2026 ballot.

Another government demanding our freedom for "safety"

Since humans started living in groups, those who would sieze power for themselves have been asking us to give up our freedoms to keep us safe. It is so common it is a cliche.

History shows that sacrificing freedom for safety rarely results in true security.

Japanese internment by FDR didn't keep us safe. The Patriot Act didn't keep us safe. The TSA doesn't keep us safe. And SJR 1 won't keep us safe.

Why Oppose SJR 1?

SJR 1 undermines the principle of innocent until proven guilty.

It grants excessive power to judges at the expense of individual freedoms.

No one should be locked up. Period. But... to do so without a trial is a violation of fundamental rights.
